probably nobody remembers the beautiful writer who shot herself in
2004. this was what the cops said about her self-inflicted fatal
wound:

"Homicide detectives would eventually determine that Iris had loaded
all six chambers of the gun, placed the barrel between her lips, and
fired. The half-inch lead ball perforated her hard palate, passed
through her left dural sinus, her left cerebral and occipital lobes,
broke partially through her skull and came to rest without exiting her
scalp."

I remember her. She wrote "The Rape of Nanking". She used a "black
powder" revolver to end her life, which may not have required a
waiting period or background check.

yes, she did figure out that loophole, i am glad in a mournful way
that someone remembers her. she had beauty and talent, yet they were
not enough. the trouble with becoming dead is that, unless you are a
true giant like lincoln or jesus or gandhi, others forget you. life
goes on with all its concerns. nobody gives a s--t.

it makes one wonder about the utility of suicide. you want to send a
message. but after about 5 days, nobody will care about the message
you were trying to send.
